Description
Saturday saw a tight encounter with College Rifles at their home ground.
Rifles looked to be the stronger, better organized and skilled side at the opening whistle, but there was no doubt this young SPC side had come to prove their worth.
Rifles took control of possession early on, maintaining and advancing the ball with both forwards and back - allowing the first try.
Play and possession seemed to even out as the half went on. SPC found themselves with more ball in hand, and kicked ahead for breathing room. The half would find the home side holding strong to their modest lead. The second session would see the pendulum swing for the visitors. More possession, forward advances, recycling possession, and a waining of pursuit from Rifles gave SPC a chance. Rifles still had the edge in skills execution, and jumped out to a lead early, but SPC showed they had come to play, defending against further scoring threats and assembling attacks of their own.
It was a good game, a tight game with all spectators showing respect for their boys and the visiting parents. Well refereed too!
