Description
Today saw the Aorere College 1st XV on the road for the first time in three weeks.
Nervously contemplating their first game of the championship pool round, the boys were kept focussed on the task ahead under the guidance of their dedicated coaching team.
Once on the field and in game mode, the boys did not know they weren't at home with their supporters making the journey into town, lining both sides of the ground proudly cheering their team on.
Playing discplined rugby on the field, the Aorere boys went into the break leading 9-0 with the kicking accuracy of Sione Vaeno ensuring each penalty meant points on the board. Heading into the second half, the Aorere machine moved up a gear, relentlessly hitting through the gaps adding three trys to their tally. St. Pauls kept up the pressure and momentum to the very end, finally crossing the Aorere line to score points with 2 minutes left on the clock to the cheers of both sides supporters. Final score was Aorere 34 St Pauls 5.
The Aorere Parents Player of the Day is getting harder each week to choose with all of the team playing consistent, fast paced and, at times, clinical rugby. This week the trophy is awarded to Sione Vaeno for his line breaks on attack and outstanding goal kicking.
Looking forward, the next step in the 2013 campaign is a game against Avondale College at home - meaning another defense of the coveted Brown Brother Trophy, up for grabs next week.
